With Bald Mountain Golf Course Closing, The Golf Leagues are heading to the Myth Golf course nearby.
Myth Golf Course in Oakland County is filling fast with golf leagues coming from Bald Mountain golf course. The Myth has openings and is close enough for a great alternative location for the golfers in the Lake Orion and Auburn Hills areas.
Orion Township officials on Wednesday postponed a decision on a proposal to build a residential community on a community golf course. The proposal, made by Bloomfield Hills-based Pulte Homes, is for 387 single-family homes on 236 acres at the Bald Mountain Golf Course at Kern and Silverbell roads.
Tammy Girling, the township’s zoning and planning administrator, said during the public hearing on the proposal, some raised concerns over the density of the plans, meaning the amount of homes planned at the site. Any changes to the proposal — which Pulte has been working with the township on for nine months — would now come from Pulte, a major developer in Oakland County, she said.
Township Supervisor Chris Barnett, who was at the Wednesday meeting, said some wanted to keep the golf course, which has been for sale for some time, as it is, suggesting the township buy it.
“I’m like them — I’d love for Bald Mountain to be a golf course forever,” Barnett said, “but if you look around the country, golf courses aren’t as viable as they used to be.
The supervisor said the proposed development is not more dense than the neighborhoods surrounding the golf course, and that — while there have been other offers to purchase the golf course in recent years — this offer fits the community best, as Orion is a growing community.
